CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC - World Conference on Constitutional Justice - Statement in support of the Constitutional Court

03/11/2022

Today, Mr Gianni Buquicchio, President Emeritus, Special Representative of the Venice Commission made the following statement, on behalf of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice, in support of the Constitutional Court of the Central African Republic:

“On behalf of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice, I fully support the Statement of the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of Africa defending the independence of the Constitutional Court of the Central African Republic who have come under undue pressure from the Government when the Court adopted decisions that displeased the executive power. The independence of constitutional courts and their judges is at the core of the work of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice. Dismissing judges because they take decisions that displease those power is inadmissible.”
