Ms Nina Betetto

 

Judge, Supreme Court

 

 

Nina Betetto graduated from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, where she also earned a Master's degree in civil procedural law. Ms. Betetto has been working in the judicial system of Slovenia since 1989, progressing from the District Court to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Slovenia. She served as the Vice-President of the Supreme Court from 2011 to 2017. Her role involves reviewing lower court judgments in civil matters. In addition to her extensive experience and knowledge of judicial systems and civil justice, she has specialized in mediation. She is the author or co-author of numerous articles and several books on civil law and alternative dispute resolution, both in Slovenia and internationally. She has participated in various international expert teams and working groups of the Council of Europe and the Venice Commission. From 2017 to 2018, she was the Vice-President, and from 2019 to 2020, she was the President of the Consultative Council of European Judges at the Council of Europe. She led the Steering Committee of a comprehensive project for the Slovenian justice system, which introduced a range of innovative tools and methods involving judges and court staff titled "Improving the Quality of Justice". The project was awarded the CEPEJ "Crystal Scale of Justice" prize in 2019.
