Georgia - Meeting with the Georgian Constitutional Reform Commission

22/05/2014 - 23/05/2014

Tbilisi - On 22 May 2014 a delegation of the Venice Commission met with the Georgian Constitutional Reform Commission in the first of a series of working sessions in the framework of Georgia's cooperation with the Council of Europe, which will continue throughout the mandate of the Constitutional Reform Commission.

The delegation, consisting of Venice Commission members from Croatia, Malta, Romania and Switzerland, met with representatives from all five working groups of the Constitutional Reform Commission. They discussed a broad range of issues currently under examination by the Reform Commission.

At the outset of the day's deliberations, the Venice Commission's Executive Secretary, Mr Thomas Markert, gave a brief statement to the media, together with the Speaker of Parliament, Mr David Usupashvili, in which he expressed the Venice Commission's commitment to contributing to a consensus-building process for the constitutional reform in Georgia, and his optimism that a good result, in the form of a stable constitution, could be achieved.
