Bishkek - The Venice Commission and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan organised on 16 September 2022 an international conference entitled “Judicial independence in the context of constitutional reforms”.
This event was attended by high-level representatives from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Participants discussed such issues as judicial independence and the interaction of the judiciary with other branches of state power in the context of the recent constitutional reforms.
Venice Commission experts from Georgia, North Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, and the Republic of Korea presented their national experience and the Venice Commission standards in the field of judicial independence.
This conference was organised in the framework of the joint European Union – Council of Europe Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2023. The programme is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
