Request for opinion – Ukraine - draft Law on the Judicial System and the Status of Judges

Kyiv, Strasbourg - the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Ms Onishchuk, requested an opinion on the draft Law on the Judicial System and the Status of Judges of Ukraine. This opinion is prepared by the Venice Commission in co-operation with the Co-operation Department of the Directorate of Human Rights and Legal Affairs of the Council of Europe (DG-HL).
In 2007, the Commission has adopted an opinion on two previous draft judiciary laws (CDL-AD(2007)003). The new opinion is to be adopted by the Venice Commission at its plenary session in December 2009.
On 19 November, a round table is to take place in Kyiv to discuss the draft law.
