Libya - exchange of views with the General National Congress - visit to the country

Tripoli - The President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, accompanied by Michael Frendo and Rafâa Ben Achour, members of the Venice Commission for Malta and Tunisia, visited Tripoli on 7 and 8 January 2014 following the invitation of the General national Congress of Libya. The delegation exchanged views with the authorities on the Libyan constitutional process and discussed possible cooperation on the drafting of the new Constitution.
During the visit the delegation of the Venice Commission met with:
• Mr. Abu Ali Nuri Sahmain, Chairman of the General National Congress,
• Member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the laws of Congress;
• Mr Salah Al- Bashir Marghani , Minister of Justice;
Mr Kamal Dhan Bashir , President of the Supreme Court;
members of the Amazigh Council and European ambassadors and
• representatives of international organizations.
The visit of the delegation of the Venice Commission was organized with the support of the Delegation of the European Union in Tripoli.
