Algiers - The Venice Commission is saddened by the sudden death of its Algerian member, Head of Algeria's Constitutional Council Mr Mourad Medelci.
He was a widely recognised expert in constitutional law at home and abroad and an extremely appreciated member of the Venice Commission. He led the country's highest judicial body since September 2013 and sat in the Venice Commission since 18 October 2016.
At the meeting of the Bureau of the World Conference of the Constitutional Justice in Saint Domingo on 8 February 2019 and March 2019 plenary session of the Venice Commission, a minute of silence was held in the memory of Mr Medelci.
