London – the United Kingdom and Canada co-hosted the “Global Conference for Media Freedom” co-organised by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Global Affairs Canada, in London on 10-11 July 2019. This conference was the first of its kind.
Upon invitation, the members of the Sub-committee on Media and Information Society of the Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media of the Parliamentary Assembly organised a workshop entitled “Keeping journalists safe – what international organisations can do” which was part of the Conference’s session on “Regional Mechanisms on the safety of journalists”.
The 1st Vice-President of the Venice Commission Ms Kjerulf Thorgeirsdottir participated in this workshop explaining the work of the Venice Commission with a focus on constitutional safeguards to media freedom.
