Bucharest/online – At the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO) organised for the first time a Leaders Forum with the participation of leaders of the prominent international organisations in the field of elections in order to discuss how the global electoral community functions now, and how its operations could be improved in the future. To this end, the following three themes were debated:
• ACEEEO is thirty: What aspects or trends might be highlighted from the past 30 years in terms of promoting free and fair elections globally and in the ACEEEO region?
• In light of the experiences of the past 30 years, what is the role of international organisations? How could be the cooperation between the most important stakeholders deepened? What were the examples for best and not so best practices?
• What is the future of elections – how do we see this vital element of democracy in 10, 20 or 30 years? ACEEEO is dedicating this year to examining youth participation – what are the most relevant trends as well as the most urgent tasks in this regard?
A representative of the Venice Commission participated in this Forum.
