Visit to the Republic of Moldova focuses on the draft law regarding the “anti-corruption judicial system”

Chisinau - On 6-8 September 2023 a delegation of the Venice Commission carried out a mission to Chisinau and held discussions with authorities and other stakeholders on the draft law regarding “the anti-corruption judicial system and on amending of some normative acts”.

The authorities met included the following: President of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Justice, the Chief Prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecution Office, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Parliament’s Legal Committee on Appointments and Immunities, National Integrity Authority, the National Anticorruption Centre, and the Superior Council of Magistrates. Meetings were also held with representatives of the European Union and civil society organisations.

The request for an opinion on the above draft law was submitted to the Venice Commission by the President of the Republic of Moldova. The opinion is prepared jointly by the Venice Commission and the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law (DG-I) of the Council of Europe and is planned to be submitted for adoption at the 136th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (6-7 October 2023).

The opinion is prepared under the Quick Response Mechanism (QRM), in the framework of the EU/CoE joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
