A delegation of the Venice Commission carried out a mission to Sofia and held discussions with the authorities and other stakeholders on the draft amendments to the Constitution of Bulgaria.
The delegation met in particular with the following interlocutors: the Prime Minister, the Minister of Justice, representatives of the Office of the President, members of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs, the Acting Prosecutor General and Deputy Prosecutors General, representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council and representatives from independent regulatory and controlling bodies. The Delegation also had meetings with representatives of NGOs, professional associations and the European Union.
The draft opinion will be submitted for adoption at the 136th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (6-7 October 2023). It was requested by the Minister of Justice of Bulgaria on 4 August 2023.
