CHILE – forthcoming opinion on the 2023 constitutional reform process – country visit

Santiago - a delegation of the Venice Commission carried out a mission to Chile and held discussions with authorities and other stakeholders on the ongoing constitutional reform in the country.

The visit was organised in the framework of the preparation of the draft opinion on the 2023 constitutional reform process, requested by the President of the Senate of Chile. The delegation met with:

- President of the Senate
- President of the Chamber of Deputies
- The Committee on Legal, Constitutional and Legislative Affairs of the Senate
- President and Vice-President of the Constitutional Council and the delegates of the parties represented therein
- President and members of the Expert Commission
- President and members of the Technical Committee on Admissibility
- Representatives from the majority and the opposition in the Constitutional Council
- President and judges of the Constitutional Tribunal
- the Secretariat of citizen participation in the Constitutional Process
- President and representatives of the Board of the Electoral Service
- Deans and professors of Chilean Law Schools
- Diplomatic community.

The opinion will be submitted for adoption at the 136th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission (6-7 October 2023).
